Undertake These Spring Home Maintenance Tasks On Your Jersey Shore Home

ferz 5-27There is nothing more invigorating than spending time outdoors after being cooped up most of the winter. With spring cleaning in the air, here are a few common home maintenance jobs that you should do around your Jersey Shore home in preparation for a stress free summer.

Clean Gutters– Unfortunately this is one of those jobs that needs to be done each year, or sometimes twice a year.  Inspect the gutters of your home for any debris and remove it, and while you’re looking at your gutters inspect your roof for places that may have been damaged over the winter.

Examine The Chimney– Closely inspect the exterior of your Jersey Shore home’s chimney for any signs of damage that may have occurred over the winter. It’s also a good time of year to have the flue cleaned by a chimney sweep that is certified.

Paint– If the outside of your home has painted surfaces that are in need of a fresh coat of paint now is the time to paint. Scrape off any chipped or peeling paint and place a new fresh coat of paint over the exposed surface. If you don’t paint, exposed wood can eventually rot causing you further problems down the road.

Trim Trees– Trim any branches from trees or bushes that may be too close to your home. Start early before they start to fill out for the summer. It is a good idea to keep all tree branches at a minimum of 5 feet away from your home if not more to prevent them from leaking moisture on the roof of your home.  This also prevents those unwanted critters from finding their way into your home via the roof.

Vents In Foundation– Spring is the ideal time to inspect the vents in your foundation if you have them, and check the screens for any damage. Use a shop vacuum to clean the vents by hand.  Mice can easily squeeze through a hole in the screen so repair any screens with holes.

Inspect Concrete- Inspect the concrete around your home for any signs of cracks. If you notice you have cracks in your concrete, they can be filled with a filler or silicone caulk.  You should also seal your concrete annually.
