The saying “Baby It’s Cold Outside” seems fitting with the recent weather we’ve been having. With the cold temperatures of late you may find it difficult to stay warm, but there are things you could do differently to help stay warm in your Jersey Shore home. Here are 4 tips to stay warm this winter.
- Air Leaks
The goal during the winter is to keep warm air in and cold air out, which can be hard to do when your home has air leaks. Go through your home and check all around your windows and doors for any drafts. If you feel a cold air draft, apply new caulk around the window or doorframe. Another common place that cold air finds its way into your home is through the fireplace via the louvers.
- Work Smarter
Have your Jersey Shore home work smarter not harder when it comes to keeping warm. If you don’t already have a programmable thermostat, add one. Smart thermostats, such as the Nest allow you to adjust the temperature of your home while you are away. It also has the ability to learn your habits and adjust the temperature in your home accordingly. A smart thermostat will help you reduce your energy bill and still keep you warm.
- Plan Ahead
During the warmer months of summer many homeowners tend to steer away from cooking that requires the use of the oven. Do the opposite in the winter and plan ahead for meals that will require you to use your oven and heat up your kitchen.
- Dress In Layers
If your goal is to stay warm and to save on your energy bill during the winter months dress in layers. A nice warm throw blanket can help keep you comfortable while lounging in the living room and can keep the energy bill low.
No matter what way you choose to keep your home warm during these cold months stay safe. Never leave a fire burning in a fireplace unattended and use space heaters with caution.
