Teach Your Child These 6 Tips To Stay Safe At Your Jersey Shore Home

Staying safe in your Jersey Shore home should be top priority and parents should teach their children how to be safe as well. A little time spent teaching your children about how to stay safe in the home is something that they will take with them for the rest of their lives. Here are 6 tips to teach your children how to stay safe in their Jersey Shore home.
    1. Know who to call
Make sure your children know who to call if there is an emergency. Post important contact numbers and emergency numbers on the fridge or another easy to access spot in the home. Teach your kids at a young age how to use the phone and how to call 911 in case of an emergency. Don’t forget to also include on the list the number of your doctor, your cell phone number, and Poison Control.
    2. Know how to escape
Similar to fire drills in school, children should know the escape plan for your home and family in case of a fire. Include a meeting place in your escape plan and walk your kids through the plan. Make sure they know all exit routes.
    3. Lock a door
Sometimes it’s the simple things we forget to teach our children. Teach your kids how to both unlock and lock a deadbolt on a door. Instruct them to always keep the door locked so they can stay safe inside the home. In case of an emergency, they also need to know how to unlock a deadbolt.
    4. Home security system
Many home burglaries happen during the day and it’s always a good idea to have a home security system. If you do have a security system installed in your home make sure your kids know how to both arm and disarm it. Also make sure they know what to do if it should go off.
    5. Food allergies
If your child has a food allergy, teach them the difference between foods that are safe to eat and those that are unsafe to eat. Even at an early age kids are able to comprehend that some foods have the ability to make them very sick. It is a good idea to teach them to only accept food from you or someone else in charge of them.
    6. Never answer the door
Teach your kids to never answer the door by themselves no matter if they are home alone or there are others in the home.
