If you are moving or getting ready to move to a new home along the Jersey Shore, it can be a stressful time. We are sure you have the basics covered such as packing, switching over the utilities, and changing your address but here are a few things you may not have considered that will help make your move easier.
Cable & Wifi
When moving, these are two of the things you want to get hooked up first. It only takes minutes sometimes to switch utilities, but when it comes to cable and internet – it is more complex and usually requires research into what is available in your new area and setting an appointment for installation.
During packing, set aside a box and fill it with the essentials you would need for 24 hours in case there would be any issues with the moving truck. Pack those items as if you were packing a carry-on for an airplane. Add pillows, blankets, and utensils for eating.
Don’t just choose the first mover you come across. Do your due diligence and get quotes from a minimum of three different companies. Research them with the Better Business Bureau. It is also a good idea to ask for referrals. Moving expenses are tax deductible so save any receipts or invoices.
The previous homeowner will relinquish their keys but that doesn’t mean there isn’t another copy out there floating around. If time permits change the locks before moving in or as soon after as possible.
The previous homeowner may clean the home before they move out but that doesn’t mean it is as clean as you would like. Consider hiring a company to come in and give it a deep clean before moving in.
