It’s true many homebuyers begin their home search online and tour houses online, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t still attend live open houses. If you and your real estate agent determine it’s in your best interest to hold an open house, you want to be ready. Here are a few tips on preparing your Jersey Shore home for an open house.
Before your open house give your home a deep cleaning. If you are short on time consider hiring professionals to help you clean.
Remove Animal Odors
If you have a furry friend living in your home you may have grown accustomed to their odor, but beware not all potential homebuyers are pet lovers. A foul odor could deter them. Some buyers may be allergic to pets and if they smell pet odors in the home they may be hesitant to buy. Clear your home of odors by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of vinegar and mix in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture in the air throughout the home to help remove the odor.
We only get one chance to make a good first impression and the same can be said for your home. First impressions on the exterior of your home can make or break a sale. Keep your lawn tidy and healthy. Keep up with your landscaping as well. During the open house buyers will want to tour your backyard too, so take the time to clean up the garden bed, remove downed limbs, rake up any leaves, mow the yard, and pull any weeds.
When buyers tour your home they want to be able to imagine themselves living there. If your home is filled with a lot of personal items like pictures of the family and drawings the kids have made, buyers tend to have a hard time seeing themselves living there. Prior to the open house put away family photos and remove the latest art masterpiece your kids have made from the fridge. It is also a good idea to remove as much clutter as you can before an open house.
