How to Not Only Attract but Accommodate Guests During the Winter in Your Jersey Shore Vacation Home

ferz 1-15 2 16The cold air of winter is upon us along the Jersey Shore.  Now is the typical time where occupancy rates on vacation rentals decrease. Now is when you should be planning ways to draw visitors to your Jersey Shore vacation home during the off-season.  Just because it is cold does not mean there are not travelers. There are many people who choose to vacation during the colder winter months.  Here are some tips to use to not only attract but also accommodate guests to your Jersey Shore vacation home.

    • Appeal to winter travelers.  Appeal to those looking to vacation in the winter by emphasizing features your home may have, such as a fireplace or hot tub. Use descriptive words in your advertisement such as cozy and warm so future guests are able to envision themselves sitting in your vacation home with a view while they snuggle up with a warm cup of hot cocoa. It also helps to add some photos that you have taken of your home in the off-season.
    • Run Specials.  Everyone loves to feel like they got a deal. Attract bookings in the off-season by offering specials. If you get inquiries for bookings this upcoming peak season, suggest they take advantage of a half-off price over the weekend to visit and check out the place. Now is also the time to reach out to previous guests and offer them a special offer during off-season stays.
    • Add amenities. If you are looking to increase bookings during the off-season and your home stands out as a summer home with no winter appeal, it may be time to add some amenities. Installing a gas fireplace and a hot tub can quickly pay for themselves. Adding warm and cozy touches throughout the home is important as well. Warm inviting comforters on the beds and warm throws on the sofa are inviting and scream warmth. Go a step beyond and leave warm treats in the kitchen for guests such as hot cocoa mix or the fixings needed to make a pot of chili.
    • Prepare for snow.  In the instance that there is a large amount of snowfall that may result in guests being snowed-in your home, be prepared so they are as comfortable as possible. Leave the proper tools at the home such as a snow shovel, ice scraper, and ice melt. It is also ideal to have the home stocked with movies, books and board games.

Not sure renting your home out during the winter months is right for you? Take into consideration that homes that are left vacant for an extended period of time are more prone to freezing during the colder winter months and could lead to problems. Having periodic visitors during the winter months could prevent freezing.
