How To Keep Your Jersey Shore Vacation Home Safe While You’re Away

snow 069 - CopyWe know your vacation home along the Jersey Shore is a place you go to find solitude, comfort, and enjoy good times with family and friends. That solitude can quickly escape if you do not take the right safety precautions.  Here are a few tips to help keep your Jersey Shore vacation home safe while you’re away.

    Lived In Appearance

Criminals who are looking to burglarize a property will find an unoccupied home an easy target.  When you plan to be away from either your primary or vacation home it’s important that it appears lived in. You can achieve this by maintaining your landscaping year round.  Also, don’t let mail build up at your primary home while you are visiting your vacation home.  Using a light that is on a timer is also a great way for your home to appear lived in.

    Surveillance

Home security systems used to be pricey, but with today’s technology almost anyone can afford them.  While away from your Jersey Shore vacation home, activate a remote video surveillance. This allows you the ability to check in anytime on your second home while you are away.  A majority of these remote systems can be accessed via your laptop or even your smartphone.

    Rent Securely

If you choose to rent out your second home do so securely. If you will be renting long term to someone, get to know them before signing the contract. When renting out your home secure all your valuables, and set a clear list of rules that renters should follow. If you are renting out your property while using video surveillance you need to follow New Jersey state law.
