Spring and summer are the times we typically see a peak when it comes to home buying, but there are still a great deal of buyers looking to buy a home along the Jersey Shore this fall. If you are one of those buyers you are going to face less competition, and it is a great time to buy.
Here are four things you need to pay attention to when buying a home during the fall.
- Windows– It can be devastating to buy a home only to realize when winter hits that the windows are poorly insulated and a draft leaks in. Drafty windows can cost you a substantial amount more in your monthly utility bill. When buying a home in the fall, make it a priority to check the condition of all the windows so you are not in for a surprise when the cold winter weather hits New Jersey.
- Air Conditioner– It is not uncommon for your air conditioner to still be running some of the time during the beginning of fall here in New Jersey. However, as the days become cooler and air conditioners are taking a well-deserved break, don’t forget to check the condition of a home’s air conditioner before buying. Make sure the air blows out cold air and that the condenser outside is not making any weird noises.
- Driveway- Before you buy a new home, take into consideration how steep the driveway is. A steep driveway may not impact you at all during the fall, but when winter hits and you are faced with snow and ice, that driveway may become a hindrance.
- Drainage Issues- When buying a home in the fall inspect all gutters to make sure they are in good order and clear of debris. Inspect the yard for any puddles of water. If it has not rained in recent days this could be an indicator of a leaking pipe under the ground.
